Schulich School Hosts Annual MBA Games

The three-day annual MBA Games just finished its run and exemplified the motto of “Be More.” Hosted by York University’s Schulich School of Business, the MBA Games pits students against each other in academic (case competitions), athletic (basketball, volleyball, indoor triathlon, and dodgeball), and spirit competitions (opening ceremony dance competition, leadership video, a scavenger hunt, social media engagement, and overall sportsmanship).

Over 600 students participated in the MBA games from 20 schools across Canada. The MBA Games is the largest gathering of MBA students in Canada. It represents the MBA journey—a quest for more and an unfading pursuit of ambition. The goal of the games is to showcase the talent of MBAs across Canada in a variety of disciplines. Students are challenged to be innovative, play more, and to be of service to society.

Schulich School MBAs were the defending champions, but came in third for 2016. Jose Paolo Del Carmen, a Queens Cup champion and co-chair of the MBA Games felt that the event is a highlight of many students MBA experience. “The Games enable MBAs to showcase skills and interests that aren’t necessarily easily demonstrated in the classroom. Athletic skills, creativity, volunteerism and community building truly shine at the Gamesm,” he said in a news article.

Schulich School has won six MBA games since 2003 and has consistently placed in the top every year. For Schulich School’s Chief of Staff, Sean Siddk, hosting the MBA Games is a wonderful opportunity for students and faculty. It allowed the school to showcase its award-winning facilities and raise over $60,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities. “We were proud to host the 2016 MBA Games and showcase our world-class school and the amazing City of Toronto,” Siddik said. “It is a great opportunity to witness the intersection of our brightest minds with future business leaders, while competing on a national scale and supporting a great cause.”

As for the Schulich School case coach, Joe Fayt, the MBA Games are all about the students’ passion. “I am so proud of Team Schulich, not only for making it to the top three yet again, but for the high level of respect and courtesy they extended to all other participants. They demonstrated what it is like to be a true winner.”
