DeGroote School Receives AACSB Accreditation

Toronto city

Less than 5% of the world’s business programs earn an AACSB Accreditation and the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University ranks among them. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business is regarded as the gold standard of business education accreditation. Harvard Business School, Yale School of Management, and the London Business School are among the other accredited institutions this year.

In a press release, Dean Leonard Waverman, spoke about the AACSB Accreditation. “DeGroote is known for exceptional student-centric teaching, innovation, learning and substantial research output,” he said. “The AACSB Accreditation reaffirms this position, and strengthens our reputation as one of Canada’s top business schools. We are honored to be recognized.”

DeGroote School was recognized by the AACSB for its Strategic Plan: 2015-2020 document, which outlines the School’s focus on world-class research, teaching, and community engagement. The Plan provides well-defined goals in each of the School’s core areas.

The AACSB also praised the DeGroote School for maintaining a strong reputation in one of Canada’s most competitive markets. They particularly praised the School’s cutting edge programs in digital innovation and healthcare. As well as its physical and technical infrastructure, student support services, and focus on student-centered learning, particularly the MBA Co-Op Program and the MARS Apprentice initiative. The Executive MBA in Digital Transformation was cited by the AACSB as an example of the faculty’s Strategic Plan in action.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert Reid, Executive Vice President and Chief Accreditation Officer of AACSB International.

“Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”

The AACSB is the longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools. It’s now celebrating its 100th year.
