Meet 6 Emerging Leaders from Ivey Business School

Ivey

Every year, in conjunction with Global Ivey Day (Nov. 17, 2016), Western University Canada Ivey Business School recognizes and honors six rising leaders who have graduated from Ivey within the past ten years. The Emerging Leaders Awards are awarded to alumni who have made a significant impact in one of six categories:

  • Community Advancement
  • Global Impact
  • Corporate Development
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Student Leadership
  • Academic Leadership

This year, the award recipients are as follows:

Community Advancement: Marc Soberano (HBA ’13)

Marc created Building Up, a non-profit social enterprise that provides training and employment in the trades to those that need it most. He received the award thanks to his innovative business model and how it solves complex societal issues.

Fun Fact: Marc is the only known graduate of Ivey to have canoed across Canada.

Global Impact: Danielle Thé (MSc ’12)

Thé founded Developers Without Borders, a registered Canadian non-profit, that brought together 200 developers from across the world for a cross-continental Hackathon. The competition was over 30 hours long and resulted in an education, agriculture and healthcare technology application for We.org’s work in rural Kenya. And, before that, the non-profit built a beta app for women in India to chat about sexual assault and domestic violence anonymously.

Fun Fact: Danielle was named a “Sixty Under 30” by FLARE Magazine.

Corporate Development: Alex McMurray (HBA ’07 & MBA ’12)

McMurray joined McKinsey in 2012 as an integral part of company’s Canadian and North American effort to improve gender diversity. Through her work, she’s been a thought and change leader, elevating the conversation about gender diversity and engaging the community. Outside of McKinsey, Alex works with a variety of women’s groups across Canadian Universities.

Fun Fact: McMurray loves to ski, hike, and bike in the Rockies.

Entrepreneurship: Mallorie Brodie (HBA ’13)

Brodie is the CEO and Co-Founder of Bidgit, a subcontractor communication and punch-list management platform. The company was launched in 2014, and in 2015 she was named the Techvibes “Entrepreneur of the Year” at Google Demo Day in San Francisco.

Student Leadership: Tom Grainger (HBA ’17)

Grainger has an excellent academic record while also contributing actively to the Ivey community. This past summer, he co-founded Cultivate Compliance as part of the Next 36 Program.

Academic Leadership: Andreas Schotter (EMBA ’04 & Ph.D. ’09)

Schotter is an Assistant Professor of International Business and the Faculty Director of Ivey’s MSc in management program. He also acts as Ivey’s academic director for the CEMS Global Alliance Masters in International Management program.
